I currently have two ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition servers configured in an array. Just recently one of the servers stopped properly publishing a secure web site. When client requests are served from this server they receive the following error:

Error Code: 500 Internal Server Error. The signature of the certificate can not be verified. (-2146869244)

When checking the ISA logs it shows an HTTP status code of 0x80096004.

When requests are served by the other server in the array everything works just fine.

The certificate installed on both servers is a wildcard as I am publishing three sites.

I have attempted the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Uninstalled Windows Server 2003 SP2 (problems started after SP2 was installed).
2. Deleted and reimported certificates.
3. Deleted and recreated publishing rules.

This is causing serious problems for my organization so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to resolve this problem. It was caused by the intermediary cert not being in the intermediary cert store. The odd part is that the intermediary cert was not installed on the server that was working. After importing the intermediary cert into the server that was not working everything returned to normal.
