ITEngineer -> Please Help- Daily errors (9.Sep.2007 6:03:33 AM)

Hi All, i get these errors on daily random basis:

in event viewer , under application

quote:

Disk cache E:\urlcache\Dir1.cdat failed to initialize. Some errors were encountered when ISA Server restored specific data cache files. ISA Server will now attempt to recover these files. These errors may have occurred because there was not enough time to complete all necessary shutdown operations, when ISA Server was previously shut down. To avoid this in future, you can increase the value of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\WaitToKillServiceTimeout registry key. Identify the reason for cache failure by examining previous recorded events, or the error code. Check that the disk is connected and that it is not corrupt. (Internal code: 503.7173.4.0.2165.617)

quote:

Data cache file E:\urlcache\Dir1.cdat was recovered. If the operation did not complete successfully you may use the error code in the Data area, which indicates the cause of the failure. Recovery operation result is: The operation completed successfully.

quote:

Data cache was recovered.

quote:

ISA Server must be started before the Routing and Remote Access service is started. As a result, ISA Server will now stop the Routing and Remote Access Server service.
Firewall service started.

quote:

Due to an unexpected error, the service fwsrv stopped responding to all requests. Stop the service or the corresponding process if it does not respond, and then start it again. Check the Windows event Viewer for related error messages.

under system

The Microsoft Firewall service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

please if anyone has experienced the same issue, i would be thankful.

You need to find out why the ISA Firewall service is terminating. You must have the wspsrv to restart on error. Do you have any ISA third-party ISA add-ons application running? Possible memory leak? What ISA service pack level r u running?

Hi Rotorblade, thank you for your reply.

i have already set the services to restart once it fails.

I have GFI Web Monitor 3, but its been there for more than 2 years without any problems.

quote:

  Possible memory leak?

I have a 2 GB Ram installed , and the memory usage goes sometimes to 1 GB

I have ISA Server 2004 Standard Edition with Service Pack 3

This is really strange, and i can not find a reason for why this is happening.

Hope i answered your questions.

You are running a Beta Interm-release (not fully tested and released) ( to fix issues with applying ISA SP 3) which could be why you are having issues. I would try disabling the GFI filter to see if the termination issues cease.

Other than trying the above, your next step would be to start debugging the service to trap the error to see what is causing the problem.

ITEngineer -> RE: Please Help- Daily errors (11.Sep.2007 4:16:02 PM)

Hi Rotorblade, i had these errors before installing the 20070503   build for GFI.

Thats why i think its not the GFI that causing these errors.

I though it was the SP3, i uninstalled it and the problem is still there.

is there any software that is avialable that will watch for a service and will report why this service is being stopped.

Really a strange thing happening!

Hi ITEng,

have you tried disabling the Cache ??

you might have a corrupted cache, or a faulty drive !!!

check this and report back.

Tarek

If it's not a cache issue as Tarek suggests checking then you can use the MS debugging tool below to attach to the FW service to help pinpoint the issue.
