I am wondering if anyone can help ?
I have searched around to try and find a solution to no avail.

I have a proof of concept system set up (to test things before building it in the real world)
and I have a little issue with publishing owa.

The basic config
2 MS exchange front end servers using NLB both runing on virtual servers using vmware.
1 isa 2006 server (now native) trying to publish the owa.
However it doesn't work.

here is what happens when I first build the isa box I can access the standard https running on the exchange box using the common shared IP.
I install isa 2006 create the publishing rule install the certs (this server is a domain member (don't ask just trying to eliminate possibilities)) and try to access the published owa site.
now running a packet sniffer on the network shows the isa box cycling through ports trying to access the owa site (and the owa servers hear them)
however no response is sent back.
so I then try to access owa from the isa server on the exchange boxes and I can no longer access it.

Even uninstalling isa will not allow me to access it now.
and again the exchange boxes are hearing the requests but not responding.

Does anyone know what's going on ?
It looks like it's an exchange/vmware problem to me but everyone is blaming isa.

For starters--If you are still experiencing problems without ISA, then ISA is not your issue.

It sounds like your Virtual Directories may have become corrupted in IIS on your Exchange Server.

I would first try to access OWA by right clicking on the "Exchange" virtual directory in IIS to see if you can browse to it, if not, restart IIS; if still a problem then use the IIS Resource kit to rebuild the metabase for Exchange.

Would that issue just disable access from one pc ?
As exchange seems to still be running fine and I am able to access it from any other pc.

This would rebuild the virtual directories on the Exchange Server; which would temporarilty put Exchange out of commission for a few minutes.

You are able to get to OWA fine without ISA in the middle?

yes I can access owa without a problem unless I use a computer that uses the same mac address as the one used in the isa server.

Have you tried using another built in NIC or replacing the NIC on the ISA Server?

Ok I have had a bit of progress (it was a virtual server issue)

now it just hangs at the owa logon screen after I have entered a valid userid and password.

Interesting, now can you enable logging in ISA to see where it hangs up?

That last one was an easy one to fix, forms based authentication enabled on both isa and owa.

A quick question is it better to turn off the forms on isa or on owa ?

For some reason this rings a bell.

FBA should be turned off at the Exchange level.

All sorted and working now :)
Now to build the real system on my blades.
there was a mismatch in the config on the owa servers that caused a problem as well
it was in the authentication fields for the iis server.
