Is there any possible way to publish an SMTP service in a redundant way.

Right now we have 2 enterpriser servers in an NLB array.

However i can't really find any method to publish an smtp service (2 servers) in a faul ttolerent way.

Any ideas?

Just make sure that the source IP address is preserved in the SMTP Server Publishing Rule, which is the default setting.

Tom

I may not have been entirely clear in phrasing my question.

What I have is
Isaserver1 and isarserver2 in an array

What I need to do:
Load balance/fault tolerance for smtpserver1 and smtpserver2 using a single DNS a record (smtp.companyname.com)

As I see it I can not create a farm (as for http) that I can use to send requests coming to smtp.companyname.com to. I only have an option of specifying an IP address for the SMTP server (single server IP)..

Any advice?

One possible solution I could see is to setup the 2 SMTP servers (smtpserver1 & smtpserver2) in an NLB cluster and then configure the ISA server array to publish the virtual IP of the SMTP NLB cluster... however since NLB does not really work with teamed Intel adapters I would like to avoid this solution...

Any ideas would be highly appreciated.

OK, I think I get it.

Create 2 server publishing rules on the ISA Firewall arrary, one for SMTP1 and one for SMTP2 use VIPs for the listeners

Create an NLB array for the SMTP servers. Install two SMTP servers on each of the NLB array members. One is SMTP1 and the other is SMTP2.

That's all there is 2 it

HTH,
Tom
