ISA2004, ISP is changing to DHCP, so will no longer have static IP.  They will be installing (I believe) a Comtrend DSL modem/router with one or 4 ports.

I'm not sure if that will cause a problem or not?

Now: DSL modem with external IP going to ISA's external NIC, ISA's internal NIC to our LAN 192.168.1.x

with new modem, the IP coming out of the modem will be, so will need to change my internal LAN to some other subnet, is that right?

I don't know why this is confusing to me.....not enough beer maybe?

OK, ISP switched us over to DHCP this morning. All working, but have a question.

Somewhere, I saw a blog by T.Shinder that says (several times) to NEVER have an External DNS on any interface.  When I tried to uncheck "obtain DNS settings automatically" and just leave the DNS settings blank, it goes right back to that setting as soon as I close. Either because the DNS settings are blank, or because the IP/gateway is set to get IP automatically.

Therefore, the ISP's DNS settings are obtained, and show when I do a ipconfig.

Is this a problem, and if so, how can I NOT obtain the ISP's DNS settings?

I have the same question.  My ISP uses DHCP (would love static IP, but they don't offer it).  Is it okay that the external interface recieves DNS settings from DHCP from ISP?  How do we disable.  Tom, do you have any ideas on this?

Thanks a mil!
