Hi,

Could somone please help me regarding the configuration of WPAD. I'm using ISA2006 Std. in single NIC mode and I have done the following:

  1. Created an A record DNS entry for wpad.domain using the ip address of the ISA 2006 server.
  2. Enabled the "Publish Auto Discovery for this network" option within - Internal Networks - Auto discovery - port 80
  3. Enabled "Bypass proxy for web servers in this network"
  4. Enabled "Direct access computers specified in the Domains tab"
  5. Added in all the urls's & ip address entries within the "Directly access these servers or domains"
  6. Domains Tab - *.domainname
  7. WebProxy Tab = "Enable web proxy client connections for this network" is enabled.
  8. WebProxy Tab = "Enable HTTP" is enabled.
  9. WebProxy Tab = "HTTP Port" = 8080
  10. WebProxy Tab = Authentication is enabled for Integrated.

My Firewall policy uses Internet access for http, https & ftp from internal and local host to Internal and condtion = "All authenticated users"

When I check my IE settings I can see that the "Automatically detect settings" is ticked/enabled but when I go to a website it just shows me the "Connecting to sites ip address" and then displays The page cannot be displayed.

When I try to browse to http://wpad/wpad.dat I get HTTP Error 404 - the file could not be found. But when I browse to http://wpad:8080/wpad.dat it then produces the wpad file and I can see all my entries as I defined within ISA.

Could you tell me how to overcome this problem please.

If you need any further info please let me know.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

John.

Since you are using port 8080, you must use DHCP instead of the DNS option for the auto-discovery to work!

When you use the DNS option, the port must be port 80.

I am confused.  If you specified port 8080 as below, why would you think

http://wpad/wpad.dat would work?

Also, the ideal DNS entry SHOULD be the domain you are registered to, so, if you are 'part of the 'somedomain.com' the entry for wpad should be

wpad.somedomain.com.

So, unless you have a reason to use a port other than 80, I would change it to port 80(your step 9), and make a CNAME record wpad.domain.com and point it to the FQDN of the proxy serverf.

----------------------------------------------------------------
WebProxy Tab = "HTTP Port" = 8080

When I try to browse to http://wpad/wpad.dat I get HTTP Error 404 - the file could not be found.

--------------------------------------------

But when I browse to http://wpad:8080/wpad.dat it then produces the wpad file and I can see all my entries as I defined within ISA.
