btg -> blocking website problem wildcard destination sets (23.Jan.2008 11:57:10 PM)

Hey guys,

Using isa 2004 I am trying to block websites. I create a destination set but cant seem to get wild cards to work. I have tried domain sets and url sets. I put down something such as http://*.myspace.com/* or even *.myspace.com/* but to no avail.

Can anyone pls advise where I'm going wrong?

Using the above syntax in a URL set is permitted but it won’t work in a Domain set.
Using a Domain set with your example would be *.myspace.com. Furthermore, URL sets do not support SSL URL links. You must use a Domain set.
Destination sets only work with web protocols (HTTP, HTTPS or FTP over HTTP) so if you have other protocols specified, the request will be ignored.
DNS is another gotcha. Domain and URL sets are dependent on a properly configured DNS for name resolution. If DNS is not functioning as it should, you will have issues using URL and Domain destination sets.
