    Hi to everyone.

I really need a hand on this (maybe 2).

My ISP has "some constraints" to keep update the nearest connectivity node to my place. So y had to rent 2 (two) T1 services in order to satisfy the internet demand. (only using 1 at the moment) The network  is about 750  workstations what makes a the internet connection speed a bee honey serum going out through an ISA Server 2004.

Any suggestion on what way should be the best to configure the network for better results.

May I configure 2 isa server in the same scenario ?  2 diferents gateways  ? What happens with the WPAD in the DNS and DHCP ?

Please any suggestion ?

Option #1
Bring both T1s into the same router. Load balance the T1s with IGRP at either the Packet level or the Connection Level.  You could even add more T1s up to the number of Serial Ports on the router.
This is your ISP's job to do, and to maintain it.

Option #2
Get rid of the T1s and replace with a D3 or similar.  Operates like a T1 but a lot faster. It's 40+mbps or 60+mbps (I forget which, but it is fast either way)

Configuring the network won't make the WAN links faster.

May I configure 2 isa server in the same scenario?

Won't make any difference,...and you need the Enterprise Edition and create an Array anyway to do that,...and then it still wouldn't help.

You answer is faster WAN lines.  Monkeying with the ISA or the Network isn't going to do anything other than possibly just screw things up

In the case of Option #1 above,..your T1s run at 1.54mbps.  If you load balance two of them at the Packet level you would get about 2.4mbps out of them after you deduct what the Protocol Overhead is going to cost you.  My guess is figure maybe 1.2mbps per line.

If you load balance at the Connection level you will get the same 1.54mbps of a single T1 however you can run twice and many users over it before there is a performance loss.

If your router has, say, 4 Serial Ports and you get two more lines you could estimate:

4.8 mbps (1.2 x 4) if done at the packet level
Or..
1.54 mbps with 4 times the number of users if done at the connection level

Don't forget, T1s are Syncronous (same speed both ways).  DSL & CableTV as Asyncronous and only have about 256k to 512k on the upload,...and they never really get the "advertised speed" on the download, although DSL comes closer than the CableTV because it is not shared bandwidth.

Also the whole technological design of a T1 setup is more solid and handles multiple Public IP#s just like a regular Ethernet system does. You can have a whole subnet of Public IP#s assigned to you and it works with it in nice clean expected ways just like a LAN does.  But you try that with CableTV or DSL and you will find a very "wacky" technology that is proprietary depending on what equipment the ISP is running,...and in some cases they may not even ofter much at all for multiple IP#s.  CableTV and DSL are Home User technology, plain and simple.

That's what I do at our place. It is 2 bundled T1 lines.
I do have several "other" connections with DSL and CableTV but they are there for special purposes that suit them well,..but our main connection is the duel T1s.
