Greetings.  I have 2 Windows 2003 domains, domain1.local (orest root domain) and domain2.local (new child domain in existing forest)

domain1.local contains the ISA server and I created a WPAD entry in DNS on domain1 and everything is kosher.

domain2.local PC's cannot autodiscover the ISA server.  How do I create the WPAD entry in domain2 in DNS in domain2?   I know I have to have a host record in domain2's DNS zone in order to create the alias but the host record will have domain2.local appended to it where the ISA server is isa.domain1.local.

Say for example the ISA server name is isa2006.domain1.local.   In domain 2 do I just create a host record called isa2006.domain2.local and map the WPAD alias to that.   I shouldn't have a same host name (NetBIOS) that reside in 2 different domais should I?

Well here's the situation.  Both domains are on the same subnet (10.1.0.0/16)and everything is static IP.  I have a stub zone setup on each DC for the corresponding domain.  From domain2 I cannot resolve wpad to isa.domain1.local.

You create a DNS zone for each of the domains.

For example, on my internal network I have:

tacteam.net
shindermail.net
shinder.net

Note that .local is never used for internal networks. It increases complexity and leads to a false sense of security.

OK, so each of these zones is created in the DNS. Then I create a wpad Host (A) record in each zone.

Hosts from each domain when query their own zones for the correct wpad entries. Works great, and works every time.

HTH,
Tom
