Philip Luke -> Direct ALL SMTP out traffic though dedicated NIC (1.Jul.2008 5:48:53 AM)

We are a rural company and have a Satelite Link and a Business xDSL link. The xDSL is low bandwidth but is business SLA. Currently all Web and SMTP traffic goes out through the Satelite link. The other day we lost the link and were without email in and out. We are wondering if it is possible to add another NIC to the ISA 2006 and have this connect to the xDSL (this has a static public IP) and then re-direct all SMTP traffic through this connection. I have had a look at source port routing - but ISA 2006 will not do this. Also I see that there may well be a problem in that you can only have one Default Gateway on ISA. I know you can add things in the routing table but this will conflict as these ip's will be public too. Has anyone got a clever solution to this apart form buy another ISA server [:)]

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,

The ISA Firewall won't be able to do that. You'll need to put a dual WAN router in front of the ISA firewall to handle this. Something like a Xincom will also deal with the DNS issues so that you're inbound mail will continue to come in.

HTH,
Tom
