We use still ISA 2000. But we want to upgrade. Better, we want a NEW server and an brand new installation of ISA 2006 (or later). Is there a possibility (a workout) how to export and import the rules from ISA 2000 to ISA 2006. ISA 2006 has the possibility to export/import rules by Backup. ISA 2000 has not this function. Is there a way or do I have to import the rules (and protocols and packets etc.) by hand

Thanks

Hans

Supplement:

ISA 2000 has BIF as extension for backup. ISA 2006 XML. Is there a conversion tool?

Hi Hans,

not sure if this can help you, but you can give a shot:
Migrating an ISA Server 2000 Configuration to a Clean ISA Server 2004 Server Upgrading to Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 Enterprise Edition

Paulo,

Thanks. When I run the export vbs I have to answer some "y" questions. After that I get a vbs script error. This maybe has to do with the Windows 2003 version. But, thereis a import vbs file. When I install this file on the new isa 2006 (test server), nothing happens when i doubleclick. No config is changed. Is the tool also for ISA 2006 or only for ISA 2004 (as I read in the documents)?

Hi,

There is no direct path to upgrade from ISA 2000 to ISA 2006.

What you can do is to upgrade first to from ISA 2000 to ISA 2004 and then from ISA 2004 to ISA 2006.

ISA 2004 CD has a tool to upgrade isa 2000 configuration to isa 2004 which can then be directly imported into isa 2006.

else.

@Tarek Majdalani

Thanks, but I don't want a upgrade I want a new install. Therefore is it possible to use the ISA 2004 migration tool for making the xml-file and then use this file for import this in ISA 2006? Will this work? And how do I get this "migration tool"? Can I download it somewhere? Otherwise I have to buy first ISA 2004 and then ISA 2006 ($$)

Yes, this is what i was saying. You can export the xml file and then use it on a new server to import it into ISA 2006.

The tool is only available in the ISA 2004 CD.

But then I have to buy first ISA 2004 for only the migration tool. Then throw away the CD's and buy ISA 2006 CD's. Isn't that grazy? Why can I not download this tool? Is there anybody who wants to give me a download link or email me this tool?

Hi Hans,

I have sent you an email with a url for you to be able to download the export tool.

You may still have some work to do afterwards as the XML file will still be in the ISA 2004 format.

I am sure Tom has talked about this somewhere but I can not find it at the moment..

Rich.

Thanks, I received the tool. And no, Tom (?) has not told me about some conversion of the exported xml file to ISA 2006 format. Is there a document of how to convert the ISA 2004 xml output to ISA 2006 format?

Hans
