Hi all,

Hope smeone can help with this as it's got me stumped. I've been asked to have a look at an issue for a customer that is more annoying that mission critical. Basically their application log is full of the below error from their ISA server. It pops up throughout the day well over 100 times.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Microsoft Firewall
Event Category: None
Event ID: 14142
Date:  15/07/2008
Time:  18:07:26
User:  N/A
Computer: TheirServerName
Description:
The dial-up network connection BackOffice Dial-up Connection failed. The error description is: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection.. The error code shown in the Data area of the event properties is specific to the Routing and Remote Access service (RRAS). For more information about this event, see ISA Server Help.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 6f 02 00 00               o...

The setup of their network is as follows.

BackOffice SBS 2000 server running ISA 2000. The server has two network cards. One on LAN, the other on the DMZ configured by the previous system administrator (who's no longer around).

Based on the info in the error I figured this must be an issue with the Policy Elements>>Dial-up entries. Sure enough there is a dial up entry called "BackOffice - BackOffice Dial-up Connection" which is enabled. The office has a DSL line so I'm guessing this connection was set up a long time ago- maybe as a backup. Either way this isn't needed as I tried to diable by Right Clicking the entry and unticking the "Set as Active Entry" but this wouldn't turn off. Changing the view to detail showed the error "A network dialup connection is missing in one or more servers" in the Network Dial-Up Connection column.

Furthermore, selecting the Properties of the connection and chiising the Dial-up Entry tab displays the error "ISA Server cannot load the property page. The selected network dial up connection no longer exists on one or more member server. Select a different network dial up connection". If I OK on this error I'm prompted to select a dial up connection. If I press the select button I get "Only network dial up connections that exist on all array members can be used. No such network dial up connection exists".

Basically I just want to disable the Dial up connection entry but am unable to. This is probably simple to fix but ISA isn't exactly my speciality so if anyone could advise I'd be much appreciated.

If the DSL is using PPPoE, then it is dialup based,...it just uses an IP# instead of a Phone Number.  So it would need the Dialup Componenets,...but I wouldn't know what is wrong of what to do about it.

If the DSL is not using PPPoE then there is no need for any dialup stuff.  You can probably remove any of the Dialup config in the RRAS MMC.

I don't know what Dialup stuff is in the ISA MMC,...no one uses ISA2000 anymore.
