Hi to all ISA Guru's,

I have install and tested ISA 2006 on a test server now I would like to backup and restore the configuration to a production machine.

Question

1. The test and production name and IP address is different is it
still possible to restore the configuration?

2. Is there any guide or article available?

Thank you in advance.

If you have any Server Publishing Rules that are configured to listen on a specific address, they will fail until you reconfigure them. Same goes with Web Listeners that are coded to use a specific address.

Also, make sure the certificates are installed on the machine before you perform the restore.

Make sure that the machine you're restoring to has the same level of service packing and updates as the machine you're replacing.

HTH,
Tom

Hi,

I made a test exporting (Backup) from my ISA production to (Restore) my ISA lab (different name and IP), apparently it worked. I´m using ISA SE.

Hi Paulo,

If you are using the same IP addresses on the second machine, then everything will work fine. The name of the second machine doesn't need to be the same, but it can create problems if machines are configured as Web Proxy and Firewall clients and expect to connect to a different name.

HTH,
Tom

Hi Tom,

you´re talked about the IP addres because of network definitions, right?
If so, I could say that it works (backup and restore on different machines), we just have to change few thing like you said before.

The most critical setting in my opinion is about the certification. In my case, for example, I have a web listener using https and I was not able to start the Firewall service because the cert wasn´t installed on the destination machine.

Paulo Oliveira.

Hi Paulo,

Good point. The Certificates are very important too!

Thanks!
Tom
