simonchtan -> Making ISA 2006 Default Gateway and Publishing MSX 2003 through it. (28.Aug.2008 12:44:50 AM)

Like my title, I would like to make my ISA 2006 as my default gateway and also to host my Exchange through it.

Currently the ISA is hosting my OWA pages however the mail connector and DNS server is communicating via a old dafault gateway which i would like to remove.

Questions:
What are the consideration i need to forus on if Default gateway is to be set on the ISA 2006 server.
If the services currently hosted via default gateway are STMP, DNS.
What are the type of rules i need to consider.
and any others.

Your help is most valuable thanks.

Simon,

Hmm... you'll need to provide a little bit more information... so you want ISA to handle all outbound traffic? .. what do you mean mail connector? Are you referring to what's configured as a smart host in mail (Exchange) ?

SMTP and DNS should be (outbound) access rules on 25/TCP and 53/TCP/UDP respectively. You can use the ISA server as a gateway for your clients or use a router as an intermediary which routes to the ISA server as its gateway (of last resort). It depends on what is sitting behind ISA.. if it's all on the same subnet or not.

Any more information you can provide would be helpful.

Cheers,
Mylo
