Cache Not Returning Content - 3.Oct.2008 3:00:26 PM

I am running ISA 2004 on a Windows Server 2000 box in single nic mode. I also have DHCP running on this box as well. I've configured the DHCP scope with the WAPD entry. I've also made the appropriate configurations per this guide,

Everything is working beautifully as far as connecting up to the proxy. I see active Web Proxy sessions as well and the NIC on my server is blinking like crazy when I surf the internet on my client. However, it seems as though content is not being cached or it's not returning any cached content. I've dedicated 15 gigs to the cache and left everything else at defaults. Can anyone be of assistance that might have successfully deployed a similar proxy configuration?

Stop and start the Microsoft Firewall service and then use the cachedir.exe tool to examine the contents of the cache.

Do you have any cache rules that could be incorrectly configured to prevent caching?

Since I posted earlier I dedicated a second drive for the cache. From my understanding it's not best practice to have the cache and pagefile on the same drive. This made no difference in the amount of returned cached content.

I also opened up the performance monitor to see if anything was actually being returned and I saw a minimal amount, less than 180 kb. So something is being returned, just not much? I want to say after running Windows Update on another client I noticed a faster return in the smaller updates, but the larger ones (.Net Framework 2.0, 3.0, etc.) I'm still retrieving in full from the internet. This might just be my imagination and wishful thinking that I'm actually getting somewhere!

As far as cache rules, I only have the default cache rule enabled and since I installed ISA Service Pack 2 I was able to enable the Windows Update rule. Beyond that I have nothing special configured. I will run cachedir.exe on Monday once I'm back at the office to see if anything is actually in the cache. To be continued...
