Good day to everyone...

we are using ISA 2004 with satisfaction since some years as a router/firewall for connecting our network with partners' networks.

Now we've got a task: our internal main application uses Multicast (on UDP) for communications among central servers and clients. We have been asked to install a functional client in a partner's network, so the multicast packets should pass by the ISA.

In "debugging" phase we have created 2 access rules allowing "all outbound traffic" from servers to the client and vice-versa. There is Route relationship between the two networks. The client is now partially functional if we configure it to work without Multicast and in TCP mode. But if we try to configure in Multicast/UDP it stops working, as i was expecting.

I'm new to Multicast, i'm studying about it (it is always good to study ) but my question is: is there a way to make ISA deal with Multicast (not only for NLB purposes) or it's not designed for this -as i guess- so it will be impossible to make our client in partner's network work at 100%?

Thank you in advance.

in the while i have done some inquiry... theorically the RRAS undergoing ISA is capable of managing IGMP protocol and so on.
I have done some tries enabling the protocol on the 2 networks which need it. In ISA monitoring console the packets with the broadcast address as destination IP begun to appear, denied. I was not able to allow them creating access rules.
I have read this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B938550&x=14&y=17

showing that (on isa2006) the IGMP support shall be enabled with a particualr procedure (the article is about NLB, but maybe this would be neened in my situation too).

Probably this "solution" maybe possibile but seems quite difficult, not very documented/used/supported.

As far as I remember, ISA doesn't "do" multicast.
