I have installed ISA Server 2004 on my SBS 2003 server which is also my domain controller with exchange server installed. After finishing installation and restart of the server, my other computers on the network lost connection with the server. All the shared drives and shared short cuts stops working. machines start taking lot of time to loggon. I have to uninstall the ISA Server 2004 from the server and every thing start working normal.

Could some body advice me what I have dont wrong. what should be the steps to follow to implement ISA Server on sbs 2003 premium edition.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Mnay thanks

Vikram

Hi,

It's a danggumm firewall dude! The default installation is secure – NO ACCESS until you create access rules to allow traffic, or modify the ISA system policy for intra-domain access. SBS servers have a purpose but you should reconsider adding ISA to the mix. Best option is to have running as a domain member on it’s own box.

One should read the post. It's SBS 2003 Premium. It includes ISA.
Use the connect to the internet wizard after you have installed ISA.

You are using the install wizard to install ISA?

Steve, I’m not a complete idiot! I know that it includes ISA! I was simply trying to make a point!

Your post was irrelevent to the OP's post. He wanted an answer, not a rant.

Thanks, next time I'll try to keep my rants to a minimum and answer the full question!
The OP wanted to know what he did wrong, so I told him what I thought, and in my opinion,  that he should not even try to go down the wrong road of trying to install ISA (activate it because it is included in SBS 2003 Premium) because it’s not an recommended practice!

Dave

Note the subject line of the post, and this snippit from the original.

"Could some body advice me what I have dont wrong. what should be the steps to follow to implement ISA Server on sbs 2003 premium edition. "

And the correct answer...use the connect to the internet wizard.

My point was, TS troubleshooting aside, and even that's dodgy, it's a FIREWALL.

Allowing F&P sharing from an edge security device? That's good security..

You're still not getting the point.

SBS is a one server solution. Exchange server, SQL Server, F& P Serbver. That's what it's designed to be. It is "NOT" Server 2003. The SBS team spent many many hours, tweaking it and locking it down. That is what the various wizards do.

As you are probably aware. There have been no documented compromises of a properly deployed ISA 2004 yet, and that includes SBS 2003.

Have you installed ISA from the SBS 2003 Premium disk?

Doesn't sound to me like it's the premium disk...It should install ISA and allow your file & print traffic.

The SBS ISA is not like ordinary ISA. There are scripts that run to configure it when you runt the connect to the internet wizard. You have done this?
