As of around 10/24/2008 we started gettting 500 errors when users attempt to hit OWA using various PDA's. Initially I thougth it had something to do with Verisign certificates (Root/Intermediate) expiring. I've updated those certificates on my IIS servers. All public workstations except PDA's can access OWA. So then I thought maybe something is unique about PDA browsers but I cannot find anything consistant. I also tried another suggestion on this site which was to put the FQDN name in the internal address configuration of ISA. It did not help. The log on screen never comes up. We immediately get the server 500 error. Does anyone have any ideas what would be causing this on PDA's??? FYI - I'm using ISA 2006 with Service Pack 1.

I've also got a follow up question: I thought the purpose of the Computer name or IP address option was in case you lost DNS in which case you could have the IP address in there and it would still deliver to the back end? However I put the IP address in and the web rule gives an error. I suspect this might be due to the fact that I'm using a SSL certificate??? If that is the case then are you supposed to also put an entry in your host file. I thought that this option was to replace that requirement? I guess I'm just not totally clear of the intent of this configuration option???

The top field provides the "host header" name and the second field provides the "name resolution" name.

Therefore if you have a certificate on an internal server called SERVER1 with IP address of 192.168.1.1 which has a certificate common name of "webmail.domain.com". The publising rule would have webmail.domain.com in the top field with SERVER1 or 192.168.1.1 in the bottom field.

This negates the need to use a hosts file as you can separate the host header and the connect name...

Are the verisign Root and Intermediate certs installed on the PDA's?

Error 500 is pretty generic - have you got an extract of the ISA logs when you get the error?

Do you get any error text with the 500 error?

Cheers
