Hi all

For disaster recovery purposes we intend placing some servers in a data centre and creating a VPN WAN.  The servers would include a domain controller so in essence we'd be running one network.

We have ISA Standard 2004 at the office.  The plan I had was to buy another ISA server for the data centre.

The ISA servers would be dedicated.

Any advice on the thoughts that follow would be appreciated:

1. I would be buying an ISA 2006 licence.  Should I use it or downgrade to 2004 so we're running identical software at each location?

2. Is ISA 2004 OK for this site to site VPN or should I use 2 x ISA 2006 machines?

3. The ISA at the co-lo centre wouldn't be doing anything other than acting as a VPN.  Might it be sensible to save the power costs (a major issue with co-lo) by buying 2 x inexpensive VPN appliances from the likes of Netgear or Linksys and use them to make the VPN and keeping ISA out of it?  I could build an ISA server as a virtual machine which I could keep at the remote site and fire up at the time of  a disaster if we wanted something more sophisticated at the time of invocation.
