Ashokk001 -> Remove MSDE2000 from isa (9.Jun.2009 7:30:14 AM)

Hi All,

We are running ISA 2004 Std with SP3 and have recently moved to logging to file as opposed to MSDE 2000 database. Can anyone tell me how i can remove the MSDE2000 from the isa and what i need to be careful about?

Our plans are to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 express and migrate our Surf Control webfilter database to SQL server 2005 as it has 4Gb db support among other things. of course i don't want to mess things up so i'm wondering what is the best way to do this.

Thanks.

Ash.

Thanks Jason. I did actually came across that article but since it was for 2006 i though it betetr check. I take it its exactly the same of isa 2004?

What i am looking to do is to uninstall MSDE 2000 complely and install SQL Server 2005 express to hold our SC web filter database. Obviously uninstalling msde 2000 will at present will also cripple the SC web filter so i need to backup that database before i do this.

Thanks for your help.

Ash.

One quick question, what kind of functionality is lost if we remove the MSDE (i.e. database logging) from the isa server computer. I.e. will the logging tab not work in troubleshooting scenarios? or it will not be affected?

Thanks.

Ash.

It depends what logging choice you go for...

This has some good info:

Since Surf Control was acquired by Websense, you may at some point want to (or have to) move to Websense Web Security or Websense Web Filter software.  As an FYI, Websense logging/reporting components do not work with any version of SQL Express.  You'll need either MSDE 2000 SP4 or SQL 2005 SP2 (or later).
