zakfleming -> Google Advanced Search Will Not Block (10.Jul.2009 7:12:18 AM)

Hi there,

I am trying to block Google advanced search, the following URL - http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en

I added the full URL into a URL set. The URL set blocks all sites in it perfectly but not google advanced search. Google is defiantly going through the proxy. We use the same URL set to block Google Videos.

I have also tried the following rules:

http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en
http://*.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en
http://www.google.*/advanced_search?hl=en
http://*google.*/advanced_search?hl=en

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks

Hi,

Hope the rule order need to be checked.

zakfleming -> RE: Google Advanced Search Will Not Block (10.Jul.2009 8:21:51 AM)

It wont be the rule order as it blocks other sites. We only have one URL Set

Jason Jones -> RE: Google Advanced Search Will Not Block (10.Jul.2009 8:30:51 AM)

Hi,

How about using a HTTP filter which looks for and blocks the advanced_search? signature in the request URL?

Maybe this will be more accurate?

Cheers

JJ

Hi,

no. ISA does not reconize the question mark (?). Put it like this: http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search

For more info check this:

And for more info about HTTP filtering as Jason suggested, check this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc302627.aspx

They can get past that by removing the proxy settings from IE and allowing the machine to use the Firewall Client only,...or using the SecureNAT Service.  But if the users don't know that they may not do that.

Hi,

1. This is blocked by group policy
2. The firewall is set so HTTP & HTTPS is blocked on all machines but the proxy server.
3. The firewall client isn't installed.
