I am having what feels as quite a silly problem, but so far I can't find a solution.

I have the following setup:
1 Exchange 2007 server that hosts mailboxes
1 Exchange 2007 that acts like the Client Access Gateway
1 Exchange 2003 that hosts all our 'old' mailboxes, ready to be migrated to new server
1 ISA 2006 server with a single NIC in our DMZ, that acts as a reverse proxy for access to Outlook Web Access.

I am using a split DNS to make ppl from both the internal and external network connect to our ISA 2006 server, which proxies the requests to our internal CAG server.

All redirects work fine, but I am having a problem with redirects for Outlook Web Access when users enter the old web access URL (let's call it http://mailserver/exchange) and their mailbox is already migrated to the new server.

What happens in ISA logs is that you first see that anonymous access to http://www.ournewshinypublicwebmailurl.com/owa is denied (Exchange tries a redirect to server) and it does a redirect to the following URL:
https://www.ournewshinypublicwebmailurl.com/CookieAuth.dll?GetLogonRedir?curl=Z2FowaZ2F&reason=0&formdir=2

The problem with this URL is imho that the GetLoginRedir thingy doesn't exist and produces the "500 Internal Server Error. Element not found" error message. Imho, this should be GetLogon instead of GetLogonRedir.

If I manually change GetLogonRedir in the URL to GetLogon I am shown the OWA login screen as expected.

It would save a lot of helpdesk calls if this minor issue is solved, as lots and lots of users have the old URL in their favorites. Ofcourse, when the old exchange server is empty, I can simply make a redirect on the old mailserver/exchange, but this will take a while before I can do that :P

So does anyone have an idea for this? It would be greatly appreciated :)

While in coexistence mode, get ISA to redirect from webmail.domain.com to webmail.domain.com/exchange for all users.

The CAS server should then do the redirect from /Exchange to /owa dependent upon the users mailbox version.

Once all users are migrated to 2k7, you can change the redirect to redirect from webmail.domain.com to webmail.domain.com/owa.

Cheers

JJ

Hmm, I can deduct the problem to something 'simpler' now. It seems that my /owa extension is somehow broken while using /exchange is working fine.

Here is part of the log when I open mail.ourwebsite.com/exchange. It denies because you have to authenticate and succesfully redirects you to login page.

0x0 0x0 Web Proxy Filter  12/5/2009 1:00:03 PM 172.0.0.1 443 https Denied Connection mail.ourwebsite.com.extern clientip.18 anonymous   GET http://mail.ourwebsite.com/exchange
1:00:03 PM 172.0.0.1 443 https Allowed Connection  clientip.18 anonymous   GET http://mail.ourwebsite.com/CookieAuth.dll?GetLogon?curl=Z2Fexchange&reason=0&formdir=2

So this is working perfectly fine.

Now when I enter mail.ourwebsite.com/owa it shows the following:

0x0 0x0 Web Proxy Filter  12/5/2009 1:02:27 PM 172.0.0.1 443 https Denied Connection mail.ourwebsite.com.extern clientip.18 anonymous   GET http://mail.ourwebsite.com/owa/
172.0.0.1 443 https Failed Connection Attempt  clientip.18 anonymous   GET http://mail.ourwebsite.com/CookieAuth.dll?GetLogonRedir?curl=Z2FowaZ2F&reason=0&formdir=2

First part is the same, a deny following a redirect. But in the /owa case I get an error 1168 Element not found. The difference is the GetLoginRedir in the URL. While I am sure also the /owa part was working before!

Giving me small headache now :P

Silly I haven't thought about this before, but I think I found the problem and it must be in the customized form we are using. When I switch back to the default form all is working as intended and people are shown the correct login screen in all cases.

So I guess I have some work recreating some forms and doing it right this time ;)

(thanks for the help nevertheless!)

-edit-
Sigh some problems can be so simple; the file logon_redir.htm was missing from our customized form. Copied this from default form, restarted service and all is working 100% now :)
