Hi

I know that a Web Listener using 1 IP Address may be used to publish multiple web sites on a server, but can this be done for multiple servers?

Eg, Web Listener listening on 200.200.200.200 to be used for Web publishing rules for
abc.com on Server 1
def.com on Server 2.

So users accessing abc.com will be led to Server 1 and those accessing def.com will be led to Server 2, and both host addresses for abc.com and def.com are pointed to 200.200.200.200.

Will this work? or can a particular Web Listener be used to publish web sites only for 1 server?

Cheers

Assuming you are using HTTP, then yes.

You can create two rules, each with different public names and then use a single web listener in both rules. Each rule then defines a different internal server in the To: tab.

If you need HTTPS, then this is a little more tricky and you would need something called a Subject Altername Name (SAN) certificate on the web listener. Or you could use a single web listener with two IP addresses, combined with two standard SSL certs.

Cheers

Hi Jason

yes just HTTP.
I am trying to publish a website on a windows server 2008 IIS 7 (first time doing this) but it does not seem to work.(Publishing of sites on IIS 6 works fine though.)

I have set up 2 sites, one is development site, one is a simple html page which I am using to try to troubleshoot.

For both sites in IIS 7, when I do a Test Connection under Basic Settings, both pass in Authorization and Authentication.
But when I do a Web Publishing Test for both sites, here are the results I get:

For the development site:

Testing URL http://xxxxxxx.com:80/
Category: General error
Error details: An unexpected response was received from the server. HTTP response: 500 Internal Server Error
Action: Verify that the intended server is published and that virtual directories exist. Ensure that you can browse the published site directly from an internal client computer.

For the test site:

Testing URL http://xxxxxxx.com:80/
Category: General error
Error details: An unexpected response was received from the server. HTTP response: 414 Request-URI Too Long
Action: Verify that the intended server is published and that virtual directories exist. Ensure that you can browse the published site directly from an internal client computer.

Are you able to advise on what the problem might be?

Regards
Bing

Just a long shot, but are your host headers configured correctly on both web servers?  I typically have at least two host headers for each website.  One for website.com and another for www.website.com on each website in IIS.  Make sure those match the published sites in ISA as well.

Hi link470

yes the host headers match. I didn't mention this, but the urls which I am using for the sites are actually child domains so www is not going to work, but thanks for the suggestion!

So what do you have defined as host headers on each website?

Can you provide some detail on your publishing rules?

I assume you can browse the website just fine internally? If so, what do you put into the address bar when they work internally?

Cheers
