Hello,
We upgraded our ISA 2006 Enterprise servers to SP1. After installing SP1 we're no longer able to Backup (Export) the Array to XML.

Using ISABPA I was able to find about more information about the cause of the error:

IDP.2010-2-3.0-7-57.trace.log contained:
* Error Number : 8000FFFF
* Description : Catastrophic failure
*
* The error occurred on object 'Exchange RPC Server' of class 'Protocol Definition' in the scope of array 'ICRFWNLB01'.

Within the ISA MMC > Toolbox > Protocols > Server Protocols I'm not able to open the Properties for "Exchange RPC Server".

I've searched these forums and the web but I was unable to find a solution for our particular situation. Any ideas? Thank you!

This is normally cuased by rule or object corruption.

Do a search and you can use the same procedure as other corruption situations to solve this type of problem...

Cheers

These have some advice on fixing corruption:

http://blogs.technet.com/isablog/archive/2009/02/17/error-installing-a-replica-of-isa-server-2006-css.aspx

Method 2 of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935767

Hello Jason,
I appreciate the additional info. Before posting I read the first link and KB935767.

In ADAM I was able to locate GUID {2297692C-E2E7-40BD-9A32-5F4D49455AA5} for "Exchange RPC Server". What's unclear is whether or not I can fix the corruption (I don't know what's corrupt within this GUID) or worse if I delete the Protocol definition how will it be re-created?

The corruption happened during the upgrade to SP1 (was able to backup our Array prior to installing SP1). Prior to installing SP1 we had the Supportability Update (KB939455) installed.

Any other suggestions before contacting MS CSS? Thank you!

Hi Mike,

It sounds like you will have to delete the object.

You could import the default protocol from another "vanilla" install if you export a dummy rule that contains the "Exchange RPC Server" protocol.

If you are unsure or nervous, calling CSS is probably prudent and sensible.

Cheers
