We plan to deploy TMG 2010 very soon and plan to log to a central SQL database. I have a few questions.

1. If the central SQL DB is not available (patching for instance) will TMG stop functioning? If not do the logs get queued on the local server and then written to the DB when it is available? If they get queued what is the location?

2. Since we plan on using a central SQL DB can the SQL express (MSDE) be removed from the TMG server after it is already built? The is would mean we wouldn't have to patch for MSDE and would make our auditors happier.

Thanks in advance.

Ken

Hi Ken,

TMG has a local log queue, so it won't quit when you're servicing the SQL database.

I don't believe you can remove SQL Express, although you don't have to use it.

HTH,
Tom
