My current ISA Server 2004 is running on Workgroup. I am going to shift it on Active Directory (running on Windows 2008). And going to implement user level authentication (All Authenticated User). My some users are running on Workgroup, & never shift on Active Directory. I want to ask one thing that when users (running on Workgroup) will access internet via ISA Server. Will ISA Server prompt for UserName & Password from Workgroup users? If user will give valid AD UserName & Password, then ISA Server will allow them to access internet.

Hi,

ISA will prompt for user name and password. If the users gives valid AD credentials, ISA will allow them access the internet.

Paulo Oliveira.

If I create a local Group on ISA Server called iNet, and add users from AD. Then allow iNet group to access internet rather than All Authenicated Users. Some users are working on Workgroup, but they has AD User for some of network resource access.
If that tyoe of user will access internet via ISA. Will ISA Server still prompt for UserName & Password from those users?

Hi,

yes, ISA will still prompt. The only way to transparent authenticate users on workgroup is to mirror accounts on ISA firewall.

The username and password used on users desktops must be the same on ISA local users.

Regards,
Paulo Oliveira.

Thanks for your replies & assistance. It is working fine, ISA prompts for UserName & Password from workgroup users. One user who is on Workgroup using uTorrent 2.0.4 & FreeRapid Downloader 0.85u1, now unable to download via both of applications. I have configured proxy settings & authentication option in both of application.

I have attached screen shots of both applications. Please check it out & reply.

Thanks.

Hi,

configured on one HTTP and the other SOCKS? Have you enabled SOCKS on ISA firewall?

Other thing to look at is the application itself, maybe it does not work well with authentication web proxies.

One case I checked a few years ago was Skype Client did not work well with authentication proxies, altough it had a field to put user name and password. This issue was resolved on a new version.

Regards,
Paulo Oliveira.
