I am trying to remove Threat Management Gateway 2010 from a machine but the uninstall fails midway through and displays the following error: "Setup failed while stopping Microsoft Forefront TMG SMTP Message Screener related services" The uninstall stops and TMG is left in some state of broken, I think its in lock down mode. I am forced to go back to a recent restore point in order to get everything working correctly again. When you read through the log that is created during the uninstall the actual error appears to be "the function AddNetSvcToNetCfgOp failed at the function StopServerServices"

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get around this? There is not much on the web about it. I found this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/forefront/en-US/fdf41dd3-7292-448e-a2fa-3b06bbb0ac49/manual-uninstall-or-other-guidance-on-removal?forum=Forefrontedgegeneral but the solution mentioned did not work. I have tried stopping other various other services manually, uninstalling TMG service packs first... nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to avoid reloading this system. Thanks!

something related to this service Microsoft Forefront TMG SMTP Message Screener

have you tried check its dependencies. stopping/starting them .

That's the peculiar thing- there is no service named "TMG SMTP Message Screener", or anything like that, when I look at services. Is there somewhere else I should look?
