anthonymel -> External Nic IP address and Local DNS (28.Jul.2005 5:02:00 PM)

I'm having this odd problem with my ISA server's external nic's ip address. It's been registering in my domain's dns server and has been throwing off firewall clients trying to access the Internet.

The local address is never registered in the DNS. I have to enter it manually but it keeps changing over to the external address.

Under the external nic I have my ISP's DNS server and I have checked off under advance to not registry with the DNS server. Yet this problem still happens.

Any way to fix it?

Anthony

Check your bindings and binding order under Network Connections... Advanced... Advanced Settings.

Make sure your Internal NIC is at the top of the list.

Make sure you DO NOT have File and Printer Sharing or Client for Microsoft Netoworks bound to the external NIC and that they ARE bound to the internal NIC.

Also, under TCP/IP Properties... Advanced for the external NIC, select Disable Netbios over TCP/IP (not sure if this is required though)

I took your suggestions. Let me see what happens.

Thank you though,

Just an update that it did happen again today. The domain DNS record for that server was assigned the ISA external IP address.

When I went over to change it back I noticed under security that the ISA computer name had full access to that record. (I might have done this) I removed it.

Does anyone think that might have cause this problem?

Thanks,
Anthony

It just occurred to me that the DNS server in question is probably running ON the ISA Server and if this is the case, it is probably addressed by the following:

If you haven't done this yet:

In your external NIC properties, go into TCP/IP properties and click 'Advanced'. Go to the DNS tab and uncheck the box that says 'Register this connection's address in DNS'.
