FIX for 14079? - Read this if you are having problems - 24.Oct.2002 6:48:00 PM

We have finally figured out at our company that the services are getting the "unknown" error at a certain point each time - when the w3proxy.exe service reaches a certain point in memory.

You can watch it grow, and eventually, when the computer gets close? to being out of memory (within a few hundred megs, but still), it always appears to quit, and usually take down the other services as well.

We solved this (temporarily hopefully) problem by creating a performance alert that restarts the w3proxy service when the memory threshold is near. The service restart takes 1/2 a second, and clients never notice.

Ever since we enabled the alert, ISA has never gone down.

The threshold will probably be different for others that have the same problem...use performance monitor and log the memory results, then use this to determine at what level you need to restart the service.

Take care and good luck,

Phil
