Hello,

I have a customer that wants to publish his website in a unihomed scenario. I have been pushing him to use 2 nics in the ISA 2004 box, but he is in insisting on it.

Here is what he wants to do for http access. He will later setup https access, but for now he just wants http.

The internal IP address for the portal web server is going to be 190.9.12.24.

12.177.69.32 will be proxied to this internal address.

So outside will hit http://12.177.69.32 and the the box will forward that request to 190.9.12.24 and then when it gets the reponse from 190.9.12.24 it will forward the response to the users.

He just wants the box to simply relay the request to our internal server that way we can eliminate the domain traffic noise.

I do not agree with him, but I want to verify that with this scenario, I am going to need to setup a hosts file in place for the internal server so that users can access this website. The ISA box is set to a single public 12.177.69.X nic going through a checkpoint firewall on the edge.

I just want to make sure that what I have in place is even possible or am I missing something.

Thanks

Rocco

Hi Rocco,

This sounds like a recipe for disaster that the CP box isn't going to fix.

Why does he want to publish using an IP address instead of a FQDN?

Thanks!
Tom
