Here is what I have,
Pix firewall with a dmz
in the dmz I would like to install a ISA server the would redirect all smtp trafic to an internal exchange server, back through the pix. If I have the pix configured corectly will ISA forward the SMTP to the internal exchange server. And could you direct me to how to configure it. Also would this be considered a secure way of doing it.
Thanks very much

Kevin, I would put the ISA server on your 'inside' port of the PIX (Security100) rather than in the DMZ area. Assuming the ISA server has two cards in it then it can forward the SMTP on through normal publishing rules whilst acting as an internal firewall. This will also allow ISA to act as a proxy/cache without having to leave the internal security area. What you could do is to put a small box in the DMZ to forward SMTP through but it sure doesn't need ISA server to do that.

Kevin,
Any particular reason why you don't want to replace the PIX with the ISA? Seems like that would be a better solution. I would do that then place another box out on the DMZ to recieve email and forward it to your internal mail server. That's would be a very secure setup, especially if you installed a virus scanner on your DMZ SMTP relay server (hopefully a different Virus Scanner than what you use internally) GFI has a free version of their mail security software. I use GFI on my DMZ and Trend internally.
