Hi all,

I know this isn't strictly on-topic for this forum, but it is loosely connected and I have always had such good answers from here.

Now we have got our DNS setup properly it has highlighted a problem we have in that our externally hosted website address (chasebs.com) is the same as our W2K domain on our internal network. This results in us not being able to access our webpage as the nslookup results for chasebs.com point to our internal DC.

What would the implications be of changing our internal domain name? And if that is the only way to get round this issue, how would I go about it.

Any advice would be most welcome!

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

In a spit DNS config where the internal and External namespaces match just add the A record for the webpage and add its public address into the internal DNS. A Domian rename is not required to make that work.

Ok Chris, go on then. Had a quick look at DNS server and can't really see what to do. How would I go about setting up the A Record?

We have split DNS and that is how we take care of external websites with the same domain name. To enable our internal users to access our external resources.

To Add "A" or "host" record in the zone of your internal DNS. In Windows 2000 dns. Right click zone "your_domain.com" select new host (A),if the website name is www.your_domain.com- enter "www" as the name (without quotes)then enter its' IP. To test do nslookup www.your_domain.com at the command prompt.

Red,

Right click on the internal zone and select create new record.

But what do you do when you have your ISA servers in a second forest. a.com contains the ISA servers and the network is in b.com. b.com has the necessry www record but it appears to never go out of the network to the internet.
