Hi Chris,

OK, I'll check that other thread.

I am using my isa server as a smtp gateway. I have setup a publishing rule that publishes the smtp service, but when I test the connection by telnetting to port 25 from a client on the public network, I breifly see the smtp server response, but then I imeadility get a connection to host lost.

I am currently running isa server 2004 SP3 on windows 2003 SP2.

thank you for any help you can give.

In additional to my previous question/problem. I have been able to get connected to my smtp relay/ISA server by creating plain acces rules that allow smtp from/to external network to local host. I notice that listed in those access rules is the smtp filter. Will it offer me the same protection as a publishing rule? I do not plan on using the message screener because I have GFI Mail Security and GFI Mail Essentials installed on the machine also.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

I had a chance to test the access rules and the smtp filter. I disabled some commands in the smtp filter and they were not blocked. So I assume that using access rules does not work with the smtp filter.

I have been able to publish the smtp service to my internal network,. I tested the command blocking there it it worked.

So it seems to get the best protection from the isa server, I need to get the external publishing rule to work.
