Oops...

A good night's sleep really works! I found the problem. I had on the ISA server on the client side a rule that allowed traffic for all protocols from internal to external. I had no idea that the FTP (client) protocol had to be explicitely allowed to upload. [Frown]

Now everything works fine!

Ok.. so I have read all of this information but still have issues.. and it does
not seem that this topic went any further... Using Serv-U and ISA 2004
trying to make a regular FTP connection works fine but using SSL does not.
Did this topic continue elsewhere??? THanks

Hi ezpcc,

as far as I remember, that article wasn't very accurate and was therefore taken offline by the author. Because it was a very interesting topic, we discussed it further offline with the author. This offline discussion resulted in a new and very good article Publishing Secure FTP Servers behind ISA Firewalls by the same author.  So, check it out!

Thanks spouseele for the quick response.. that is the article I was trying
to follow.. but I am still having a couple issue. Alhough using an ftp client
it works out of the box per the article, I can not get the SSL piece to work.
Also, I did not use the port numbers as described in this article.. should I
have.? thanks

Hi ezpcc,

in part two and three the port numbers are crucial to get it working. What is configured in the FTP server should exactly match what is configured in the custom FTP protocol definition.

Hi Spouseele,

One thing with my setup, I have a dynamic IP and am using a router in front of the ISA server.
I have opened all ports from the router to the external nic on the ISA server for all services
that I need to pass. I have also successfully implemented parts 1 and 2 of this article. The one
thing I forgot to do uas setup the PASV mode with my external IP address. Once I did that
part 2 worked.

Unfortunatly, I have still not been able to get part 3 working...seems that I am once again missing
something.. am going to call it a night and try again in the morning freash.. any ideas on what I could
be missing here...?? Thanks

Hi ezpcc,

if scenario 2 works without the FTP Application Filter then scenario 3 should also work. As far as the ISA server is concerned, it is the same setup.
