Hi everybody,

Im trying to deploy via Group Policy or login scripts the ISA2004 Firewall Client over several machines who has ISA2000 Firewall Client installed on it.

Anyone has any recommendation, issues reported, anything that could help me to develop this task?

Regards.

Hi Tech,

Everyone I know has had no problems using group policy for the update.

HTH,

You cannot install the 2004 FW client on a machine that already has the 2000 FW client, neither manually nor via GPO. If you try it via GPO, check the event logs on the PC and you'll find a message explaining this. I have encountered these same problems.

I wonder then if there is any way to script an uninstall of the 2000 client either via GPO or logon scripts prior to intstalling the 2004 client. I believe a reboot is required, though, when manually uninstalling the 2000 client.

Just my two cents.

John

When deploying with Group Policy, I always do an advanced deployment and uncheck the box 'Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management' Then you can just remove the assignment of the old version and assign the new version. The old will be uninstalled before the new.

You certainly can deploy to a machine with the 2000 client, but you need to do the following:

-Do an advanced assigment
-Select the upgrades tab, and select the 2000 client GPO used to deploy the previous client
-Select the checkbox to uninstall the previous version

I have used this method with success in the past. Also, I disagree with not checking the box to uninstall if it falls out of scope of management. If you check this box and move the machine to a OU that does not have this GPO applied, it will uninstall the client. This is the desired effect - configure OU's with certain deployments and when you move machines from one OU to the other, the installed software will be uninstalled/installed based on exactly what is defined only for that OU.

My bad. I meant 'check the box...' The sentence doesn't make sense otherwise [Smile]

Does the unistall of FWC 2000 forces a reboot? before FWC 2004 is deployed, because that's what I am worried about, I am planning to deploy it to over 300 users , and most of them juts lock their computers at the end of the day, and might have unsaved data.
