dslaby -> Windows 2003 SP1 VPN Issue (10.May2005 1:12:00 AM)

Windows 2003 SP1 successfully installed on my ISA server (W2003 Standard), Web server (Web
edition), SQL server (Standard), but failed on my exchange domain controller
(Enterprise). There is no information in my event file to indicate the cause.
Is there a way to trace the install to see what might be causing the failure?
Has anyone else had this problem? The failure has created a problem with VPN
access, and the information on the ISA server indicates a failure in RPC
(which is running on the exchange domain controller). I ran update from the original Windows 2003 CD, but the VPN remains unavailable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is ISA 2004 SP1 installed? If Win2003 SP1 is isntalled on ISA, then you need to install that. There are many security changes in Win2003 SP1 for RPC. The one that causes the most problems is called Bind Time Negotiation - ISA 2004 SP1 updates the RPC application filter so that it understands this new attribute.

Thank you. As soon as I installed ISA SP1, I was able to VPN.
