Hi there, The Microsoft ISA Performance tuning guide recommends using RAID 0 (striping) if you have a RAID susbsystem in your server for the cache disks, or multiple single drives. My concern is the same for either: I want the best performance, but what happens when I get a disk failure? How gracefully does ISA 2004 handle a cache volume going away? Does it die completely and stop proxying or does it just limp along with whatever memory and disk cache volumes are left?
I'd also be interested in whether people are using RAID for their cache volumes, and if so which variety.
Its pretty transparent, but unless you're using modem connections, you'll find that disk caching isn't a heck of a lot faster than just grabbing content from the destination Web server. The key to *fast* caching is loads of memory. Disk cache is good for reducing bandwidth usage, not high performance.
