I'm new to ISA 2004 having just completed the upgrade from ISA2000. I've found the log monitoring and love it! It has already helped configure several firewall policies.

I think it has also helped identify a configuration issue which I can't seem to track down. Everytime a user accesses a web site I get a whole bunch of Destination Port 8080 traffic with a Protocol of "Unidentified IP Traffic". The users appear to be redirected to the correct website but I'm concerned about potential configuration issues and the additional traffic generated.

Can anyone help explain what I am seeing???

Thanks,
Todd

Hi Todd,

Unidentified IP traffic just means that there isn't a Protocol Definition for that protocol.

HTH,
Tom

Thanks for the reply in both forums. :-)

I understand the meaning of "Unidentified IP Traffic". What I don't understand is what causes this traffic from a client everytime they attempt to access an Internet site. It appears the client begins accessing the website at port 80 then generates the traffic to port 8080 then continues accessing the website.

I don't know if this is related or not but On occasion I also see unidentifed IP traffic to port 1745 from my clients. From what I have found this is ISA Control Channel traffic. Any idea why this would be unidentified?

Thanks,
Todd

I think it's from the requesting client to the LOCALHOST. (but it does not say this).
My ISAserver IP is 172.20.0.4 and I had 8080 Unidentified traffic between my workstation and this IP.
I don't know why ISA says 172.20.0.4 and not LOCALHOST...
Maybe this traffic is generated from the exlusions from the IE proxy settings.

Hi,

8080 is the protocol/port used by ISA Server WebProxy. Just Create a user protocol for 8080 and named it WebProxy. Now it will show WebProxy on you monitoring.

Cheers,
