I have an ISA server configured behind a firewall. The ISA server has DNS installed on it and a single NIC. My question is: should DNS be configured to use forwarders or are the root hint servers sufficient? I have read a lot of material (both here and elsewhere) but nobody really has a recommended config.

Thanks.

Hi Dana,

I recommend using a trusted forwarder, in general. Although it depends on how large your organization is. If you're a very large organization, I would allow my own DNS servers to perform recursion.

HTH,
Tom
