I had a VPN setup in SBS2K3 pre SP1. Now the clients are having trouble connecting. I've checked the firewall and vpn policies in the ISA Server management and by all intents and purposes things look good. However, I'm a little perplexed in that I dont' see an obvious port 1723 open from the External to the Internal network. I've run the remote access wizard but it only adds this very weird Rule 19 'Traffic between VPN Clients and the INternal Network.' with action set to allow using this protocol called 'All Outbound Traffic' From 'Internal/VPN Clients' To 'Internal/VPN Clients' For the group 'All Users.'

To me that seems wrong because I'm not showing port 1723 open anywhere.

Do I need to go a la carte here or is there a wizard to follow along with.

Thanks

Jeff

So I setup logging to look at the specific destination port 1723 and when I try to make the connection the log shows 'Failed Connection Attempt' on the Rule 'Allow VPN Client traffic to ISA Server'.

Can anyone tell me how and where to find this rule?

Thanks

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The ISA firewall should have a System Policy Rule allowing PPTP connections from External to Local Host.

HTH,
Tom

I did see that system policy, yet I can still see in the logging file the 'Failed Connection' and the Rule is the 'VPN Clients Access to the ISA Server.'

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Thanks

Jeff
