Tom,
Thanks for the article! It helped me gain a better understanding how web publishing works. It was a real surprise to find that FTP resources must be accessed using HTTP, but the explanation makes sense.

I actually ended up going another route. Frustrated with the FTP web publishing experience, I decided to have users initiate a VPN connection and use the FTP protocol to access internal FTP sites as normal.

To me this is the ideal situation. Use HTTP/HTTPS with web publishing since it works as expected. Use VPN/FTP for file management.

Hi Michael,

Thanks! I'm glad it helped clear up how the process works. Once thing I really like about using Web Publishing is that you can protect the data via HTTPS. But using a VPN is even more secure!

Thanks!
Tom

Hey Guys,

If you're trying to access and FTP site for a company website and the connection which you're accessing it is a VPN what setting have to be changed in order to accomplish this.

Currently I'm getting an error message.

I've opened the FTP site from numerous computers and locations not using a VPN so I know it's not the FTP site.
