Hello Salman,

Yes we also face some login problem with New version of messenger 5. One drawback of new ver is that you cannot distinguish whether it's not connecting due to wrong id n passwd or service.
Maybe new version requried healthy amount of bandwith. [Frown]

We have switched back to old version 4.8, & it's working quite fine. [Big Grin]

It works for me... Couple of 2k firewall clients behind ISA server trial version on DSL connection.

just made a protocol rule using the pre-defined MSN messenger protocol. (outbound tcp, port 1863)

messaging works fine... can't get file transfer to work yet though. [Frown]

Hi all!

I have MSN Messenger 5.0 working fine here (on a firewall client). I can chat and send and receive files.

Thomas Shinder said in a other topic you can download a script that will set up MSN with the file transfer for you. You can download it at http://isatools.org .

But if you rather like to configure it manually (like me) you could try to do the following:

Make 2 Protocol Definitions:

MSN File Transfer Inbound
PN: 6891, PT: TCP, Dir.: Inbound
Sec. conn.: PR: 6891-6900, PT: TCP, Dir.: Inbound

MSN File Transfer Outbound
PN: 6891, PT: TCP, Dir.: Outbound
Sec. conn.: PR: 6891-6900, PT: TCP, Dir.: Outbound

Apply these to a Protocol Rule (MSN Messenger) and also include MSN, MSN Messenger and Net2Phone.

Add the following to the firewall client configuration:

msmsgs : NameResolutionForLocalHost : E
msnmsgr : RemoteBindUDPPorts : 0, 6901
msnmsgr : NameResolutionForLocalHost : E

Restart the firewall service, update the firewall client and it should work. If it doesn't work; try it out the next day (because this worked out for me [Razz] )

Good luck!

Well These protocol rule will enable you to send or receive fle only, ( and may be receive only:( )

NEW version of msn is working but some times it don't. It's not the issue of ISA Server, or may be it have something to do with SSL. I will do research on it and will let you know. [Wink]

Hi Syed!

While testing I configured these 2 protocol definitions:

MSN File Transfer Inbound
PN: 6891, PT: TCP, Dir.: Inbound
Sec. conn.: PR: 6891-6900, PT: TCP, Dir.: Inbound

MSN File Transfer Outbound
PN: 6891, PT: TCP, Dir.: Outbound
Sec. conn.: PR: 6891-6900, PT: TCP, Dir.: Outbound

as secondary connections under the primary connection 1863, TCP, Outbound (because as you know this primary connection is alway's open while using MSN Messenger so file sending should alway's work) but it didn't. So that was the reason why I made the 2 definitions seperated from each other.

I leave it just this way bacause it works fine for me now. I would like to change it and make it even better but I'm affraid the changes apply only after 6 hours. Is this really true? Do the changes apply after 6 hours? I pressed the update now button at my firewall client but no changes were made..

Thanks!

RenT

You can set refresh time and other settings via mspclnt.ini file in ISASERVER\CLIENTS folder.
Read Jim Harrison Articles for the FIREWALL CLIENT CONFIG.
