My home network is my learning lab. Icurrently have ISA 2K running on a Small Business Server 2003 network. A Linksys wireless access point is present on my network - most of the computers here have wireless access.

I have my TiVo box hooked up to a Linksys wireless adapter. When I hook the wireless access point (WAP) directly to my broadband modem, TiVo updates with no problem.

When I hook the wireless access point up to my network via a hub, my TiVo box cannot get to the update site. It senses the WAP, gets an IP address from my DHCP server but does not gain connection.

My theory has been that ISA/AD are challenging for login credentials and since TiVo is not intended for a secured network, it has no way of providing login credentials.

I set up a client address set to match the IP address of the TiVo box and then created a Site and Content Rule to allow the client address set to be allowed through the firewall. This has not worked.

How do I give my TiVo wireless adapted access to the internet through ISA?

Elroy,

What you need to do is find out the port and protocol that TVo uses to update. You would then need to create a protocol matching what TVo uses. Then you would need to creat a protocol rule allowing the connection outbound.

After a ton of packet sniffing, I was finally able to get mine to connect by configuring the following:
  • Configure the HTTP Redirector Filter to send firewall and SecureNAT requests directly to the requested server.
  • Create a Protocol Definition for Port 8080 TCP Outbound.
  • Make sure that the server has an enabled Protocol Rule that allows HTTP,NTP, and the newly created protocol definition.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply. I received this response from TiVo (actually they sent me the link to this info):

If you have a software-based firewall such as Black Ice, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Personal Firewall installed on your PC, it may be necessary to adjust your settings to allow the TiVo server to broadcast the beacon signal to your TiVo Digital Video Recorders (DVRs).

The following ports must be open to allow your Windows PC to communicate with your DVR:

TCP Port 2190

UDP Port 2190

TCP Ports 8080-8089
One of the following ports must be open to allow your Macintosh computer to communicate with your DVR. TiVo Desktop tries to reach the network on port 8101 first, then tries 8102, then 8200. For more information, go to My DVR Cannot Find My Music or Photos Server (Macintosh).

Port 8101

Port 8102

Port 8200
When using Multi-room Viewing, all DVRs must be on the same network and subnet.
