hy tom , there is something strange when I want to change something in the config of my router. I can reach my router through the webinterface. but when I want to change something I get timeouts. now I make an acess rule all outbound protocol from router ip to external and then it works fine . no time outs. but I don't want all protocols open. have you an idea which protocols I need for the broadband router to config?. it seems it uses some protocols to works fine.
thanks andy

Hi Andrew,

The router may require special ports, or maybe just HTTP. The router docs should say something about this. You can try a packet trace, but the docs are the first place to check.

HTH,

Hi Andrew,

Best way to troubleshoot this problem is to enable all traffic from ISA to router and install a sniffer on the ISA.
Then do usual work with sniffer on and capture all ports / protocols used. Then close firewall accordingly.

There's a few good sniffers out there ( Sniffer Pro / EtheReal etc )

good luck !
