Hi I've been having a nightmare over the last couple of days with various web and internet related problems. Firstly, I would like to know if the sbs2003 CEICW updates ISA 2004 with the required settings to allow it to work? This does not seem to be the case in my experience. I configured the sbs up using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763 with the setting described for two NIC's connecting to the internet through a router. This guide seems to be at odds with postings on this forum which indicate different settings for the external NIC DNS addresses. My setup is as follows: Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : POWEREDGE840 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : mscr.local Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : mscr.local Ethernet adapter Server Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet #2 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : N0-N3-3D-T0-KN-0W DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.76.0.82 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.0.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.76.0.82 Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 10.76.0.82 Ethernet adapter Internet: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : AA-BB-CC-DD-EE-FF DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.5 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.0.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.76.0.82 Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 10.76.0.82 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled I've had proxy chain loop errors which I fixed by removing web filtering from the http protocol in ISA. I've had intermittent problems with web access (internet access is ok for email delivery and receipt). I've had DNS problems when connecting to the web. I can't ping the near side IP of the router which is also the default gateway obviously (10.0.0.2). I now have slow web access and am getting proxy errors (basic black text on white background and not the usual ISA 2004 fault pages). If anything jumps out to anyone as being a configuration error I would appreciate it. Everything (ISA, DNS, DHCP etc) runs on the SBS 2003 box. Cheers Cammy

Hi Cammy, Well, I see a few errors with your setup just with the information that you have provided. First, DNS should only be configured on the Internal LAN facing NIC and not on the external or both. Secondly, looks like both NICs are in the same physical network. You’re External facing NIC should be in a deferent network. Please read the below articles which outlines how to properly configure your NICs and configure DNS. http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/Configuring_ISA_Server_Interface_Settings.html http://www.elmajdal.net/ISAServer/Internal_DNS_Forwarding.aspx Anymore questions, please ask, Cheers, HTH RB

Hi Thanks for the reply. It's the different opinions on the way to configure the NIC's that can be confusing sometimes. I'll configure the server with these settings when I get a chance. Cheers Cammy
