Recieving emails from external sites is extremely slow. To clarify, I can time it and it takes close to 30 minutes. This may not seem slow, but it is. Sending email externally is about a minute or less, so why would incoming mail take so long? I run GFI mail essentials, but on an SMTP gateway, which I am pretty sure that is not the hold up because I can look at this with the monitor and when the mail hits that server, it delivers straight to my mailbox with no problem. The problem seems to be either the ISA server or something wrong with my DNS records for the MX portion. Anyone have a way I can test what it is?

Take a look at the SMTP headers on a message you have received. This should show at what point the delay is occuring. The date/time that each machine received the message should be recorded. You may need to make allowances for GMT etc but all mail servers should add the time that they last saw/received the message. User at remote company received by remotecompanymailserver at X:yy received from remotecompanymailserver by yourlocalsmtpgateway at x:yy received from yourlocalsmtpgateway by yourexchangeserver at x:yy
Alternatively, try sending manual tests telnet localmalserver 25 helo mail from:noone rcpt to:realemailaddress@yourdoamin.com data testing .
then do it to your SMTP gateway then do it on a remote mailserver somewhere (You might have trouble here finding one to relay - or use nonone@theremoteisp.com sometiems works)
