I still see posts about people installing ISA 2000, a six year old product!

Frankly, I don't know why they are releasing a new version just two years after the last one.  It should be a free feature release for 04.

I don't know if M$ has closed the option of adding additional features since it has gone to public beta, but I am not seeing much additional features that would compel someone that owns 04 to go out and buy 06.
People talk about putting lipstick on a pig, but I think M$ put lipstick on a chicken.  The frequently asked for features like configurable outbound IP, multiple ISP support, and 1:1 NAT are still just fantasy.

Hey guys,

Good points. This update is targeted at those who want enhanced Web proxy support and better worm resiliancy.

ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition will be available on Network Engines appliances.  ISA Server 2004 Enterprise edition is not and will not be available on Network Engines appliances.  There are significant cost savings that result from the use of the appliance particulary with respect to software maintenance updates and patches which are all handled and tested by Network Engines before being made available for download into the user's appliance.  In larger IT organizations this can save quite a bit of costs.

Hi Nesivos,

Are you sure about that?

ISA 2000 goes off mainstream support on March 31, 2006. They also need something to keep the Software Assurance customers happy. I paid for SA on my ISA 2000 and got nothing for it the first two years; I had to renew a second time to get ISA 2004.

Two years between major firewall updates seems to be a norm among vendors. The threat world changes  lot in two years.

Dr. Schinder could you please elaborate on your question.  I am not sure what you asking if I am sure about.  Do you mean the saving using an appliance.  The fact that the NENG appliance has proprietory software "NEWS" and "NICE" that allows for automated updates.  The fact that ISA Server 2006 EE & ES will be available on NENG appliances?

The first two points are according to NENG website and literature and customer comments.  The last point is from a MSFT website.

Please elaborate on your question and I will see if I can locate the source for my posting with reference to your question..  Thanks
