We are moving our email provider to Microsoft's Online Exchange. But we are encountering a weird issue that appears to be ISA 2006 related. Basically the connection to Exchange server gets lost frequently. It happens very little given normal activity, but when users are say importing an old outlook profile which causes a lot of data to need to be pushed to Microsoft, bad stuff happens.
The connection is dropped and restored, dropped and restored, dropped and restored. Like every 5 seconds.. very annoying and causes an extremely slow sync. This has been reproduced on 4 different machines. It has been tested and doesn't happen on two networks that aren't behind ISA.
I am not a networking expert. We played around with changing a slew of things in ISA, and then changed them back when they did not work. All traffic out is allowed, and online services is only really using 80 and 443 so it is weird. At the end is my log file from ISA( removed empty fields)
I am concerned about those "FWX_E_ABORTIVE_SHUTDOWN" messages. My only theory which is obviously not right is that ISA doesn't it like it opening multiple connections and so it terminates them, but our flood protection is set to allow WAY more connections than that. We tried to turning off nearly all protective measures and no luck. Any advice is appreciated!
Hi there, Did you find a solution to this problem mentioned above. We use hosted exchange aswell and we are facing the same problem with outlook synchronization. It disconnects and reconnects on and off.
Please let me know if you found a solution to the above.
They come from the client machines, once the client opens outlook, you will see a message at the bottom right corner that its connected to the exchange server but soon after few minutes it will disconnect and soon it will reconnect, hence it will detail outlook performance, email will sometimes not receive or the client will receive them in a bulk like receive 5 or 6 emails all at once. Dont know what do to do? i hope there is a fix for this. Its coz of ISA server 2006 coz once i remove the isa server and direct traffice directly to the router the problem does not occur. As soon as i connect the isa server the problem occurs. I think the isa server doesnt allow to have multiple connects for outlook.
i m bit confused here about what you wrote on multiple connection for outlook.
here, it doesnot seem your rpc problem.
what's your exchange server version? if it's okay with you, just elaborate to this forum what you have on firewall policy. do you make changes after you created server publishing for RPC. did you open the port TCP 135 in your router?
