Firewall client is installed. Can access windows update site and eventually updates not installed with show, but updates are never downloaded and installed.

WU requires an anonymous rule to several URLs and requires that WinHTTP proxy be configured.

From a DOS prompt, type:
proxycfg -p YourProxy:8080

Proxy Server is listed. Bypass List: <none>.
My laptop running XP Pro can download and install WU through ISA fine. I'm running XP media center edition on the pc that cannot download updates. I had to uninstall google desktop search on the MCE to allow the firewall client to connect to ISA. Thinking there maybe something similar preventing WU from downloading updates.?

As L said, you need to configure the WU sites for Direct Access.

Take a look at your %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log file to see what URLs are failing and add them to your anonymous rule. Also, check your ISA logs to see what rule is denying your update.
