I done everything that I could think and find here but this file file (wpad.dat) is not create on ISA. I've enable web proxy.

(Internal Network)

Cheif complaint: Performance is slow connecting to sites.

Web Proxy on the ISA server is enabled (HTTP on 8080)

Firewall Client Tab has everything enable (by default).

Auto Discovery Tab has Publish on 80 enabled

Web Browser Tab has Bypass proxy and Directly access computers enabled. My domain is listed.

Domain tab has my domain listed.

(Local Host)

Web Proxy Clients is enabled on 8080

Authentication on both is Integrated but Local Host does not require authenticate and Internal Network does.

Firefox and IE on client PC are set to autodetect settings. This is the only way they can connect to the internet.

The above does provide User information and website information in the monitor window on ISA.

After spending the last two days reading here and trying different things I believe I'm close to the proper setting.

Once again my question is why or how do I get ISA to produce the wpad.dat file and is that why I'm having decreased performance.

Thanks

You won't actually find a file on the server, it is generated dynamically. I don't think you will get good performance by simply resolving the ISA server name through a hosts file. If memory serves, IE does a reverse lookup so you need to be sure there is a PTR in the zone.

Hi and thanks,

Is that PTR for the ISA server? Earlier today I went into DNS and told Host to create the PTR and I created the Reverse Lookup Zone for the network.

Ok, I just check DNS and the PTRs for all my host are all in the Reverse Lookup Zone.

I think the bottle neck is at the ISA server and I don't understand why the Firewall Client won't auto detect the ISA server.

Yes, the PTR for the ISA server.

I seem to recall there was an issue with WPAD and rules that did not allow anonymous. I think SP1 may have fixed it.

Still, if you set WP in IE and don't rely on autodetect, there should not be a performance problem. If you turn off WP and use FWC, is there still a problem?

I am going to reset the ISA Server to post install and start fresh from there. Things seem to be acting strangly.

Turning of the WP did definately help performace but there still appeared to be delay.

Hopefully the next go around will be better for the WP/FWC.

Ok,

Here is what I did to be able to use Web Proxy and Firewall Client. I pointed my internal DNS to my ISP's DNS server. My web browsers are set to Auto-Detect proxy settings.

Is this a good configuration besides the fact it works great?
